Debbie Delozier :: A Casual Affair

Enhnancements

Enhnancements

I’m feeling better day by day; almost back to normal today, I think. I did a bit more decorating today, getting out my table runners, candle holders and adding candles (the sunroom is still a mess).

Being Tuesday we had Rotary lunch. First thing this morning I prepared 20 cabbage rolls, chopped green onions, grated cheese and crisped bacon for easy cheesy potatotes, then chopped bell pepper and onion for a baked corn casserole. While I was doing the bechamel sauce for the casserole I decided to melt a bit of cheese into it; you know everything is better with cheese. After lunch Frank said the cabbage rolls were really good and I could definitely do them again. Right now the everything in warming up in the oven for our dinner.

Jim and I hd our norml Tuesdy lunch at the Depot. Our table started out with the 2 of us and then Sue and Jim Pearson joined us. Then 2 ladies they knew sat at the table beside us so they could visit with Sue a bit. Jim took me back to the bank after lunch where I did the dishes and straightned up the kitchen while the meeting ended.

Not a whole lot went on around the house today; I’m still taking it slow, trying to build my strength back up. After cleaning up the kitchen and dishes from fixing the Rotary lunch I thumbed through a few recipe books (thinking ahead for Christmas Eve dinner) and looked through some of the recipes I have on my computer. I also put my Christmas card list together and addressed a few cards while sitting around.

Now that 2nd set of cookbooks are in the final stage I need to deliver 3 to a friend in Bartlesville tomorrow and then on Sunday we’ll have them for sale at the church. It won’t be long now until we have that icemaker. It would be nice if we could have it before the evening service and tasting party planned for mid month, but I’m not sure if we could have it that fast. We’ll wait and see.

The oven timer is beeping and that means our dinner is hot and ready. It is time for our family to gather around the table for dinner.

Til later.

My largest nutcracker

Nutcracker Suite

It is after Thanksgiving and the Christmas decorations are out of the shed and sitting in boxes in the sunroom (total mess out there). Besides the tree, my nutcrackers & nativities are the first items to come out of their boxes and be placed in their respective positions of honor. Everyone in the family hates my nutcrackers (Kati sezs they are scary looking), but, and I don’t know what it is about them, I love them.

I also love my nativities. I only have 3 right now, but I recently decided I would also began to add to that section of my decorations. And I absolutely love my globes. Matter of fact, I think I just love Christmas, not only as a spiritual holiday but for all it’s splendor, the razzle-dazzle and glitter.

I did take it quite easy yesterday (still not feeling quite up to par – I think I have a glitch in my hitch) I worked on the laundry off and on all day and never did make it to the grocery store (guess what I have to do tonight). After Jim began to dig out decorations I sat and picked through them and eventually, by bedtime had the tree up, decorated and twinkling.

This morning took all the cookbook stuff into the church and the ladies of the prayer group helped Joyce and I put them all together. We have a few more copies to make (somehow missed a section in 1 or 2 books) and then we will be done with 90 copies. Hopefully they will go quickly so we can get our ice machine on order. I think we’ll wait until after January to start on the 3rd installation.

Returning home there was a message on the phone canceling the bank lunch for Thursday. Yea!!! After being sick all day yesterday it is taking me a bit to get back into things (in other words: motivated).

I made 1 1/2 dozen monster chocolate chip cookies for tomorrow’s Rotary lunch and will go to the grocery store later so I’ll have the items needed to do their lunch. Then I have the rest of the week to do a bit of decorating and maybe, some cyber shopping.

As for now, I best get busy working on some cabbage rolls.

Early Christmas Present

The picture is of my newest niece, Courtney Mitchell. Born on 11/21/07, she is 3 days old in this picture. Isn’t she just beautiful!!! And look at that hair; I know to some of you it isn’t much, but to us who have always had bald headed babies it is really something.

As I held her, I introduced myself to her, telling her “I am your favorite aunt; anything you want you call your Aunt Debbie”. And, as you can see, she is listening to every word I’m saying.

As you can imagine her Daddy (my brother) is already wrapped tightly around her little pinkie (which isn’t so little actually). She has the longest, delicate little fingers and toes. It looks as though she’ll have her daddy’s big feet and look mostly like her momma. I thought her nose and her mouth resembled my Cass & Kati’s when they were babies though.

I missed church this morning and I do mean “missed” church. I just haven’t been feeling my normal energetic self lately. I don’t know if it is allergies or if maybe I have just done too much lately. At any rate, my body is sore/tired and I’m dealing with a nagging headache. I keep telling myself I don’t have time for this, my to do list is filling up by the moment. Maybe if I take it a little easier today, just do the laundry, that long ago overflowed the basket and began to spill onto and cover the laundry room floor and do the grocery shopping for my catering this week then I can catch up the rest of the stuff later this week.

I have 2 lunches this week; for the Rotary lunch I’m thinking Cabbage rolls and for the bank lunch they’ve asked for lasagna, you know that means my mother-in-law’s secret family recipe.

Well, its time to switch laundry loads and then maybe lay down a bit.

Blessings and Giving Thanks

We had a wonderfully full holiday; I hope you did as well. Ours started Wednesday and being on the phone throughout the day to one family member and then another. It was a tough day for brother Tolly and sister-in-law Christina ending with the blessed arrival of their beautiful daughter Courtney. Our Courtney weighed in at 7 lbs and 15 ozs and measures 19” long. I am told she has a head full of blonde hair and I can truthfully say she is beautiful (Tolly sent me a cell phone picture, so I can positively for sure tell you this).

Wednesday evening we also had dinner with friends Vicky and Rick. We had a great visit and am so glad we met Rick. Note to Vicky: Now that we checked him out I deem him worthy of you (aren’t you glad, ha ha).

After our visit Jim, Kati and I headed to the Grand Lake cabin to join family for the traditional DeLozier Thanksgiving. We had time to visit with Mom and Dad D a bit before settling into our beds for the night.

Thursday morning Dad began the early preparation of the stuffing for the bird while Mom supervised. We were blessed with 15 members of the DeLozier family in attendance for our long-established, time-honored Thanksgiving at the cabin. Our 4 generation family is 21 members strong (having not grown this year) so we were blessed that so many of us were able to make it this year. We had a marvelous day and a bountiful feast with all family members pitching in.

Clean-up was done (mostly) by my sweetheart Jim and his sister, Debbie. I sat a little long at the table; sorry guys. I normally help with clean up but I slacked off this year (I promise to make up for it at Christmas). I did help put the 2nd load of dishes in the dishwasher and the final wipe-down of the counters. Dad came in to help but I sent him away as he has done his share over these many years.

Those of us who stayed all night at the cabin slept late on Friday morning. I woke with my allergies in a rage and the 3 of us ended up leaving for home late morning. We had intended on staying until Saturday but my sinuses just wouldn’t cooperate. I had absolutely no energy and spent most of the morning sleeping in the recliner in front of the fire. Once we were home my head had cleared and I was feeling somewhat better. After unpacking and loving on our lonely Miss Jade for a bit we decided to head to Tulsa. Travis has been wanting to borrow the leaf vacuum/mulcher (they may be regretting the 6 large trees on their property now) to do a bit of cleaning up of the yard.

Cass & Travis were finishing the painting of the dining room with the sunroom and main bathroom still to be painted. Jim, Kati and I volunteered to help, so today Jim and I will head back to Tulsa donned in our work clothes. Kati stayed all night as they all went to a hockey game last evening.

As Jim and I were heading home and coming through Owasso last evening it began to snow. By the time we had reached Oologah it was sleeting and by the time we had reached Talala we could hardly see. The sleet had turned to snow and huge (and I do mean huge) flakes were hurtling toward the windshield at a horribly outrageous speed. At one point Jim said it seemed as if we were driving straight into the center of a vortex (never been in a vortex before but doesn’t it just sound awful). It took us a good 15 – 20 minutes to make the last 6 miles from Talala to Watova and the safety and warmth of our home.

Now we have had a good night’s sleep and should soon be heading back to Tulsa to do a bit of painting. After last night’s snow Jim may have a hard time sucking up those leaves now.

Have a good day
